2009 plate Vauxhall Corsa D, 1.2, Design.
The Corsa is pretty much the go-to vehicle for the newly passed driver.
Inexpensive car, plentiful on the roads so parts are easy to come by and cheap, also insurance is pretty well priced compared to many other regular cars.
This car is a 1.2 litre EcoTec petrol engine, the other common Corsa being the 1.3 CDTi.
This one also has half leather interior and quite well specked in Design form.
It was also refreshing to see a Corsa D in a different colour (this one is called Champagne) to the usual colours I see of black, white, blue and silver.

Are 3-doors common in the UK? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one here in Norway.. It seems like a good (better?) alternative to the Polo for those looking for a cheap and fairly new car. Did ride in the back of a 5-door last year with no complaints.

My favorite part of these posts is looking up and down your street. Was all that identical housing built to support a large plant that was nearby?

Polos are far less common and can be more expensive to own from purchase price, parts and insurance.
The 3 doors are I guess equal to the 5 door for these cars. I’ve noticed guys tend to gravitate to the 3 door cars while the gals gravitate to the cheapest available at the time which is often the 5 door.
The 5 door is far easier to get in and out of but the 3 door is that bit better looking.

Strange, the Polo and the Yaris are pretty much class leaders here. No 3-doors to be seen of those either.

There was two large textile mills nearby (Shaddon Mill 1835 and Ferguson Brothers Mill 1824, the latter only closed in 1990). My street was built from 1879 and houses were built as and when they were needed for workers. So every house is slightly different. You occasionally see three houses that are the same having been built at the same time.
Further past Shaddon Mill was the brewery and Carrs biscuit factory (1831 and still going today, it is now owned by McVities biscuits but still bares and goes by it’s original name of Carrs).

The Polo is the more expensive of the three and doesn’t draw that much attention as people who are inclined to go for a VW will go for a one or two year old Golf than a new Polo or an eight year old Golf to a three year old Polo. Many go for something either Ford or Vauxhall (GM) for cheapness. The Yaris is more an older persons car for getting about.

The British have an odd devotion to the three door hatchback. I remember reading somewhere that the majority of the (old model) Clios sold there had the three door layout.
They also have an odd devotion to the Corsa and the Fiat 500.

Are there any cars you dislike (or have disliked) to the point you wouldn’t clean them?

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I fell asleep (very long day, which caught up with me). I only refuse cars if the owner says “I don’t care about the car, it’s just a tool to get from A to B. Can you clean it because I don’t want to?”. To which I say “sorry, I’m busy”.
I like doing cars for friends and colleagues who like having a clean car but for one reason or anything can’t achieve it themselves (ie poor health, lack of time due to exhaustive family and work constraints, show they genuinely appreciate their car but don’t have the products, knowledge or finances to keep it how they’d like to keep it). I’m happy to give my time to do what I’m passionate about, unless the reason is ‘I can’t be bothered, can you do it’.
